Beautiful Maps of the World’s Watersheds

In water news and events

The world’s watersheds are made up of rivers of all sizes, from small intermittent springs to major rivers like the Mighty Mississippi. When seen together they look like a circulatory system, and indeed they do bring life to our world.

UK geographer Szűcs Róbert created a series of maps that divide the planet’s watersheds into colorful catchment areas. Taken together, the maps provide an informative look at how water flows across continents. Viewers get a good sense of how rivers – and the pollution we dump in them – don’t respect political boundaries.

Imagine if states in the United States were based on watersheds? The country would look (and probably function) very differently. [Visual Capitalist]
