New Belgium Brewing Company of Fort Collins, Colorado was founded on sustainable principles that have helped them maintain efficient production of their craft beers (you might be familiar with Fat Tire).
Their practices have led to high efficiencies in energy and water use – they estimate that a bottle of Fat Tire takes about 24 gallons of water to produce, most of which goes toward irrigating and processing barley.
The company has also used land conservatively for their breweries in Fort Collins and Asheville, North Carolina, by only using land that was previously disturbed, and in Asheville, even helping to clean up a brownfield area.
Their embrace of efficiency and cutting edge technology has allowed them to grow while maintaining the founder’s sustainable sensibilities.
