Keep Global Warming Under 1.5C or ‘Quarter of Planet Could Become Arid’

A new study on rising temperatures from climate change found that many places will lose moisture and become more arid if average global warming doesn’t remain below 1.5° Celsius. Regions most affected by increased desertification and drought support about 20 percent of the world’s population and could have significant effect on water resources.

Per the report’s authors: “Aridification is a serious threat because it can critically impact areas such as agriculture, water quality and biodiversity. It can also lead to more droughts and wildfires similar to those seen raging across California.”
