From Ikea to Gap, Firms Aim to Use Scarce Water More Wisely

Around the planet, water is less and less available so companies like Coke, Ikea and the GAP use water more efficiently and productively in manufacturing.

Global water supplies are threatened by population growth, climate change, economic and agricultural expansion and deforestation.  Customers are becoming more aware of sustainability issues and are demanding more sustainable products and companies are responding.

For example:

  • The Gap acknowledges that water is a human right.
  • Heineken Brewing Company says that conserving water and using it responsibly “makes absolute business sense.”
  • Coca Cola is investing in new technologies and better water monitoring practices.
  • Ikea acknowledges consumer choice in product manufacturing.
