Like many agricultural products, the commercial cultivation of cannabis has an impact on water use and wildlife in its practices. A new academic research center launched in January 2019 at UC Berkeley aims to “look at how cannabis production affects the environment and society, and how these effects will evolve under new regulations following the spread of legalization.”
The center’s goal is to answer questions about practices and impacts, and to engage with the community. Research and outreach will focus on three core areas: policy and regulation; environmental impacts; and cannabis producing communities. The center is funded through seed money from the university and will seek additional funding from grants and foundations.
This is a unique look at water resources, so get those graduate applications in now, kids!
